Sports and Societies

Clare has a number of in-college societies that reflect the diverse interests of its students, including gardening, chess, knitting, films, politics, and many more. The College also has several sports teams, for which the main requirement for joining is enthusiasm. A list of societies open to all students and currently active in the college can be found here.

Clare has a strong reputation for music. The Clare College Choir performs at events across the UK as well as abroad, in addition to singing at regular chapel services in college. Several music societies cater to a variety of tastes. Clare Jazz hosts concerts every fortnight in the Cellars, an atmospheric bar located in the crypt underneath the College Chapel.

There are also dozens of University-wide societies to get involved in, which can be viewed on the University’s Societies webpages. If you play a sport at the University level, the College can help offset the cost of equipment and training.
