Clare College Cambridge

Clare College Music Society

Clare College Music Society is one of the biggest and most highly regarded music societies in Cambridge. It gives students not only from Clare but also from the university as a whole, the opportunity to take part in top-class music-making.

Weekly recitals are held in the College Chapel every Monday lunchtime at 1.15pm, enjoyed by fellows, students and members of the public alike. CCMS also stages orchestral and choral concerts in West Road Concert Hall every term, with recent performances including major works such as Haydn's Symphony No.60, Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, and Mendelssohn’s 4th Symphony. In Michaelmas Term, we look forward to a programme including Wagner’s Prelude and Liebestod, Sibelius’ 7th Symphony, and Bottesini’s Double Bass Concerto, performed by winner of the 2021 concerto competition, Jess Hoskins. We are also excited to host three ‘Evenings of Reflection’, on 13th, 27th October, and 2nd December. These will be in chapel at 10pm, all are welcome.

CCMS is not limited to just classical music: we are proud to support Clare Jazz and Clare Live. These groups offer non-classical performance opportunities in cellars regularly throughout the term, and have been the catalyst to many of Cambridge’s top bands and jazz ensembles.

Due to its jam-packed schedule, CCMS is one of the most exciting societies to be a part of in Cambridge. This is of course also helped by its much envied social calendar of post-concert parties and the infamous termly CCMS Dinners, which are not to be missed!
