The food we buy accounts for almost one quarter of the College’s measurable greenhouse emissions, with almost one-third of all food-related emissions coming from beef and lamb alone. The good news is that Clare has one of the highest proportions of vegetarian and vegan meals sold in its buttery of any College. Meat-free Mondays also help to reduce the College’s food footprint – and encourage people to try new foods they might not have considered before. See below for some data on Clare's food emissions.

Although beef made up only 17% of purchases in 22-23 by weight, it accounted for 42% of the footprint. Similarly, lamb was 7% of the purchases by weight, and 12% by footprint.
