Josh Finneran
Biography
Joshua’s current research in the field of fluid dynamics aims to improve ventilation systems in buildings. Joshua is combining lab-based experiments with mathematical modelling to better predict concentration distributions of contaminants (e.g. pollution or virus particles) in rooms that we occupy. This problem strongly depends on airflows driven by heat sources in the room, such as our own body heat. This research has applications for air quality and for mitigation of airborne virus transmission (e.g. COVID-19). Joshua is passionate about outreach activities to improve public understanding of ventilation, and has produced several videos to simply explain key concepts about this research (links below).
Previously, Joshua has conducted research into alternative internal combustion engine concepts and alternative fuels with potential to reduce environmental impact of transportation. Joshua is also actively researching the fundamentals of liquid droplet evaporation with a wide range of industrial and environmental applications.
