Are you thinking about applying to university, but not sure if Cambridge is for you?

Do you have concerns about the cost of studying at Cambridge or Clare?

Are you a teacher or advisor with talented students and questions about Cambridge?

You've come to the right place!

Outreach at Clare

There is no blueprint for the ideal Cambridge student.

Clare College is committed to encouraging the brightest young people to apply to university, regardless of school or background. When considering applications to study here, our Admissions Tutors look for a passion for the subject, a strong work ethic and evidence of high academic attainment - we do not expect students to fit any particular image or to be from any particular background.

Clare's Schools Liaison team works to encourage young people from all backgrounds to aim high when thinking about university, to inspire them to achieve their full academic potential, and to share a taste of life at university and the vast range of possibilities which a university education brings.

We also work to ensure that no student is discouraged from applying to us because of the many myths which surround Cambridge, from the costs of study to the quality of the nightlife. In order to do this we provide extensive support for schools and sixth-form students with our applications and interview process, as well as introducing potential applicants to the thriving, dynamic and stimulating student community of Cambridge.

What support can we offer?

We offer a comprehensive programme of outreach activities for young people at all stages of their education, from Primary School to Sixth Form. We work with individual students and school groups throughout the year, offering talks, taster sessions and workshops.

Among other events, Clare's Schools Liaison team offer:

  • Day visits to the College
  • Bespoke webinars and taster sessions for schools
  • Regular webinars for students and teachers on a range of topics
  • Monthly newsletters with information on opportunities for students and teachers in Cambridge and beyond
  • A wide range of videos created by students, academics and staff on our YouTube channel

Under the University of Cambridge’s Area Links scheme, Clare College has specific responsibility for schools liaison activities in state-maintained schools in the following parts of the country:

  • Coventry
  • The London Borough of Hackney
  • The London Borough of Tower Hamlets
  • Warwickshire

Clare admits talented students from across the UK and the rest of the world, and we welcome enquiries from students, teachers and supporters from anywhere in the world.

Please note: since March 2020, our outreach work with schools has taken place online. We will be reintroducing in-person events from January 2022, subject to national Covid-19 regulations and guidance.
