Getting Connected to the College Wired Network

The College provides all undergraduate, and most graduate rooms with a wired network connection as well as Eduroam and UniOfCam WiFi services across most of the College campus.

You will be automatically charged for the the network service in College. If you do not wish to use the Wired or WiFi service you can opt-out at the start of each academic year.

For more information about charges click here.

There are 5 steps to getting connected:

1. Read the IT Usage Policies
2. Collect your Passwords
3. Secure your PC:  Make sure you have up-to-date Antivirus software
4. Inform the IT Department that you've completed steps 1 and 3
5. Plug in, open your web browser and register

Also see Connection Troubleshooting below:

1. Read the College's IT Usage Policies

Use of the computer systems and network is subject to the College's IT Usage Policies and University regulations. Our aim is to provide a useful facility while preventing misuse. By connecting to the College network you agree to be bound by these rules, please read them carefully. If you have any questions, please contact us.

2. Collect your Passwords

There are options to collect your account details pre-arrival, see the following information here on the UIS website.  If you're already here, you can use the MCS computer room PCs to get your details, log in using the username: signup [No Password].  Alternatively, connect to the UniOfCam WiFi network, launch your browser and follow the "New Arrivals - collect your accounts and passwords here" link.

3. Secure your PC:

[At this time, Mac and Linux Systems don't present a significant virus or malware risk to the network, so those users can skip to step 3]

Windows Users: Before you connect to the College's network we'd like to be sure that your machine isn't riddled with viruses, overrun with spyware and has all Windows patches applied. Please ensure that you're running antivirus software and have installed all Windows Updates. Free McAfee Enterprise Anti-Virus/Malware software can be obtained from the University website

4. Inform the IT Department that you have completed steps 1 and 3

On the web: Raise an IT Support Connection Request
In Person: Let us know that you've performed this step by visiting us in O3, Memorial Court. (Our opening times are: Mon-Fri 8:00-12:30, 13:30-17:00, excluding Public Holidays)

Your room port will be then be activated - this usualy takes less than 48 hours depending on how many applications we have; please be patient!

5. Plug in, open your web browser and register

  • Plug your computer in using an ethernet cable to your room's wall connection (if there is more than one outlet, choose the left-hand one).
If you don't have a cable, you can borrow one from the IT Department, we have 1m, 3m, 5m, and 10m lengths available.
  • Open your web browser. You should be redirected to the Clare Network Registration page:
You will need either your Raven or DS password for verification.
There is a link on the page to collect your Raven and DS passwords if you do not have them yet.
  • Choose Express registration unless you have any special equipment or need an additional IP address.
