Biography

Charles Beard is Research Associate in Economic Geology at the Dept. of Earth Sciences, University of Cambridge. His research centres on the geodynamic and magmatic controls on the mineralisation of raw materials critical for renewable energy infrastructure. Application of a systems approach, and the integration of field, experimental, and theoretical studies aims to streamline exploration efforts, and ultimately facilitate the green transition.

In Cambridge, he works closely with Owen Weller (Sidney Sussex) and Caroline Soderman (Selwyn), as part of the UKRI Future Leader’s Fellowship project “A process-based understanding of rare-earth element deposits”.

Charlie holds a PhD from McGill University, Canada (2018) and an MSci completed at the University of Bristol, UK, and the University of British Columbia, Canada (2012). He has worked on academic and commercial projects at the British Geological Survey, the Geological Survey of Canada, Université Grenoble Alpes, the University of Brighton and Sisprobe SAS, a French geophysical services company.
