The Gardening Team

The College's Head Gardener, Steve Elstub. Steve began his career in gardening as an apprentice with the Leeds Parks Department, and came to Clare after ten years at Audley End House, near Saffron Walden. Steve is particularly proud of the reputation Clare has for its herbaceous perennial planting and its many specimen trees.

Steve has a team of five gardeners

Mick Nunn

Mick Nunn has been at Clare for 11 years. Mick is particularly at home in the Fellows' Garden, with its spectacular views down to the river.

Chris Heath

Chris has been with the College for 16 years. He is most interested in the Garden's history and is a keen plants man.

Ian Mason

Ian, Steve's Deputy, has been at Clare for 24 years. He enjoys the Cambridge colleges' reputation for being the finest in the country.
