Lecture by Professor Quentin Skinner
Quentin Skinner is one of the outstanding historians to have been educated and to have taught in Cambridge in the past 50 years. He led a transformation in the study of the history of political thought, which made Cambridge the international reference point for this field of scholarship. He was successively Professor of Political Science and Regius Professor of History; on retiring from the latter he became Barber-Beaumont Professor of the Humanities at Queen Mary, London. Hobbes has always been at the centre of his interests: this lecture opens a new angle of enquiry into his work by examining Hobbes's use of images to advance his arguments.
