Food and Drink
Most of your meals will be taken in the College cafeteria, better known as The Buttery. An informal, friendly place to eat with your friends, the room is decorated with framed photographs taken by the Clare community. Providing 3 meals per day, this self service cafeteria provides a wide range of international culinary delights and traditional British fayre such as the obligatory beer battered fish and Sunday roasts. At lunch time the offering is supplemented with a ‘made to order’ sandwich bar with locally sourced and Fair-trade drinks and snacks available. Themed nights are held each week Opening times Monday to Saturday during Term – Breakfast 0830-0900, Lunch 1230-1330. Dinner is each night from 1815-1915.
Students are also welcome to dine from the Salad Bar in the Hall at lunch times on Mondays to Fridays from 1230-1330. You may also take food from the Buttery at lunchtime and join your friends who may be dining in the Hall. The Small Hall is used for the service of Fellows’ lunch.
In the evenings a formal meal is served in the Great Hall at 1930. You and your guests will be able to partake in this unique experience; a memory of Cambridge that is treasured by all. Tickets for Formal Hall can be purchased for up to a party of 6 from the online booking system. For larger numbers contact the Catering Office. Guests will be charged at a higher rate as they do not pay the Kitchen Fixed Charge. Diners are restricted to a half a bottle of wine per person during dinner; if sharing a bottle of wine please arrive for Formal Hall with the person you are sharing with.

Graduate Hall is held in the Great Hall at 1930 each Friday of Term. Tickets can be booked on-line through the MCR.
If available, the Small Hall can be booked by students for subject, society and celebration dinners. With a seating capacity of 44, the room is the ideal venue in College to mark that special event.
Dietary Requirements for Special Events
You will need to inform the Catering Office of any dietary requirements or food allergies 48 hours before a special event in order to allow the kitchen to provide the appropriate ingredients.
Kitchen Fixed Charge (KFC)
All undergraduates are required to pay the KFC as their contribution to the cost of staffing, production and service of meals and the cost of utilities. Graduates living in College will be charged the full KFC. Those graduates living out of College are automatically opted out of the charge, but can opt in they wish. If you choose to opt out of the KFC, any meals taken will be charged at the higher opted out guest rate.
Payment and Guest Charges
Your University Card allows you to pay for food in the Buttery and Hall. You are welcome to bring guests into the Buttery or Hall for meals, although you should remember that they will be charged at a higher rate, since they do not pay the Kitchen Fixed Charge.
The College Bar
Situated in the crypt below the Chapel, the College Bar is one of the most atmospheric meeting places in Cambridge. During term time, the Bar is staffed by Clare students and is a great place to relax and unwind with friends. The UCS, in the form of Clare Ents stages a number of entertainment events throughout each term, including live bands, discos, comedy nights, open mic nights and jazz events.
