Clare College Cambridge

Decani Scholarship

Clare College invites applications for a postgraduate scholarship in any field of Christian theology. The award is open to candidates without regard to age, gender, nationality or denomination, and will be awarded to a graduate who has been approved for a course of studies leading to a PhD degree in the Faculty of Divinity. The suitable candidate will have a vocation to Christian ministry – lay or ordained – as well as a commitment to the academic study of theology in the service of the Church, and will be expected to assist the Dean in the life and ministry of the College Chapel.  The Decani Scholar contributes to weekly liturgical responsibilities as appropriate and by participating in chapel administration and activities alongside a strong team of Chapel Wardens.

This scholarship is also open to those already ordained who are engaged in, or who shall be pursuing, academic research.

The award, which is designed to act as a ‘top-up’ scholarship to supplement a grant or other means of support, is valued at £5,000 p.a. It will be awarded for one year in the first instance, and may be renewed for up to three years.

Applications should be made by letter and CV, stating your interest in and suitability for the Scholarship.

For an informal conversation about this scholarship, potential candidates should contact the Dean of Clare, The Revd Dr Jamie Hawkey, on jdth2@cam.ac.uk, or via Nicola Robertson on 01223 333206. Other enquiries and applications should be addressed to the HR Manager, Clare College, Cambridge CB2 1TL (Tel: 01223 333222; email: sh435@cam.ac.uk).

Interviews for shortlisted candidates will take place on the afternoon of 23 March 2017.  Applicants for the scholarship must name Clare College as thier College of first choice on the Board of Graduate Studies application form for admissions as a graduate student in the University, or be able to transfer to Clare if an already registered student of the University.
