Clare College Cambridge

Clare College Music Society

Clare College Music Society is one of the biggest and one of the most highly regarded music societies in Cambridge. It not only gives the students from Clare but also from the university as a whole the opportunity to take part in top class music making.

Weekly recitals are held in the College Chapel every Monday lunchtime at 1.15pm and are attended and enjoyed by fellows, students and members of the public alike. CCMS also stages orchestral and choral concerts in West Road Concert Hall every term, with recent performances including major works such as Schumann's Cello Concerto, Op. 129, Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and the UK Premiere of Hummel's Cantata for the Wedding of Napoloeon, with an array of professional soloists. The 2017 Michaelmas Term Concert featured Dvorak's 9th symphony, as well as works by Mendelssohn, Smetana, and Strauss.

For those that prefer a more contemporary style of music, a 'Contemporary Lates' series is put on each Lent Term, with informal concerts held in the College Chapel at 10pm on Wednesday nights - these attract some of the finest composers in Cambridge, giving them the opportunity to have their latest works premiered and recorded by the best musicians at the University.

Due to its jam-packed schedule, CCMS is one of the most exciting societies to be a part of in Cambridge. This is of course also helped by its much envied social calendar of post-concert parties and the infamous termly CCMS Dinners, which are not to be missed!
